Wi-Fi with an external antenna; the video doorbell is positioned about 45 meters away, behind a reinforced concrete pillar. I was worried it might lose the signal, but it works perfectly. I have Tapo products throughout the house, a couple of cameras, one in the garage and one in the cat room. These have been great, so I decided to send for a Tapo doorbell camera. Unfortunately it wasn't up to expectations in my case as my router is in a hallway cupboard and I can't move it since I've gone for fibre now, and everything is fixed into position. The bell part of that cam had to be hard wired to the router via an ethernet cable, which meant having the bell inside the cupboard! Also I didn't have a spare socket there anyway to power it. So it got sent back to Amazon. I went for the Tapo as I already had the app on my phone. I don't have a mains socket near my front door either, which is why I opted for a battery type. My old doorbell was feeling its age and the switch was getting a bit ropey.So after a bit of deliberation I decided on this Ucocare camera doorbell. I have to say I'm impressed by almost everything about it. I've had it installed for about a week so far and my one worry was what the battery life would be like. So far there's been virtually no depreciation in the charge despite me playing around with settings etc on the first day, so I'm pleased with that. Installation was pretty straight forward. The instructions in the booklet and on the Cloudedge app on my phone were easy to follow, and set up was pretty simple. I had hoped to install it where my old doorbell had been but it was just a shade wide for that position, and in hindsight the edge of the wall at the front door would probably partially obscure the camera view in any case. It's now mounted on my porch support and gives a good view of the drive and path to the front door. The sizes, if you need them are: Length - 160mm, x Width - 58mm, x Depth - 39mm.The chime is fairly small: Height - 70mm, x Width - 50mm, x Depth - 34mm. It's loud enough though and has three volume settings. Also, because it runs on batteries (3 x AAA, which come with the package) it's portable, so it's handy if you're out in the back garden for instance, you can leave it next to a slightly open window.Wifi signal strength is excellent in my case, that said the doorbell is only about 3 or 4 metres from the router, so it probably should be. It's also good that in the app it tells you the remaining battery strength. It also has an IP67 rating.Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this purchase.

With this device, the access point is even further away, yet there’s no problem. So, the Wi-Fi is great. However, I did spot something I’m not too keen on: the doorbell itself rings—I mean the unit on the street—and since it’s in a quiet area, I don't like that. Still, a bit of thick tape over the speaker lowers the volume. Then there’s the thing I really don't like: on my phone (iPhone), if the app isn't running and the phone is on vibrate mode with the screen asleep, there’s no vibration, no notification—nothing. If the phone screen is on, no problem—the app doesn't even need to be running—but otherwise, nothing happens. Since I don’t want to have to remember to launch the app every day, and I want my screen to go into sleep mode (the same goes for the rest of the family), it’s going back. It’s a shame, because I really liked this doorbell and I’d still recommend it; for anyone whose setup works with it across the board, it would be perfect.

There are a number of settings on the unit, from doorbell only (only film when doorbell is pressed) to motion detection of a number of intensities.The image is clear, as is the night vision image.You can use a storage card so you don't need to pay any ongoing costs once it is installed.Instillation is easy as long as you know how to use a screw driver, a tape measure, and a level. The software is easy to follow as is the booklet that comes with it.I have my unit set on Doorbell and low intensity motion detection. The unit is set off between 6 and12 times a day (my area is busy with people passing the camera).I charged it on the 4th of January, and it alerted me that it had 10% battery left on the 29th of March - so that should give you an idea on how often you may need to charge the unit depending on the settings you may require.I would say I have to charge the unit on the settings I have, minimum every 3 months.The downside is the design of the key provided to remove it for charging. It is really fiddly to unscrew using the key - it takes me around 3 minutes to unscrew it from the wall bracket.Overall - Good.

I've got the data stored on a micro sd card.Accessing previous images can be a bit fiddly.Resetting is easy if you follow the good video guide.Faults. Battery lasts about a month and doesn't give you an easy heads up when running low.The screw used to secure the cam to the housing gets rounded after a few uses. I reported this to their customer services, and should get a replacement podted out, in anout a month ss being shipped.
