AOV vs Motion-Triggered vs Continuous Recording: What to Check

Event recording saves selected activity, conventional continuous recording keeps an ongoing video stream, and AOV uses a reduced-frame-rate approach to retain context while managing power and storage. The best choice depends on what you need to reconstruct after an event.

For a quiet entrance, knowing that someone arrived may be sufficient. At a busy work area, the sequence before and after an event may matter more. Start with that requirement before choosing a camera because it advertises “24/7” or “always on.”

Three recording approaches

Its model claims and numerical performance figures do not establish the specifications of another manufacturer's camera.

A simple way to think about the timeline

Imagine a delivery at your gate. A vehicle arrives, the driver pauses, a parcel is placed, and the driver leaves. These are illustrative examples of what to investigate, not test results from a particular camera:

  • With event clips: check whether the trigger starts early enough and whether the clip includes the departure.
  • With continuous video: check whether the relevant period was retained and contains the detail you need.
  • With AOV: inspect the quieter periods as well as the detected event. Lower-frame-rate context can look less fluid, so review the actual transition and playback.

More hours on a timeline do not necessarily mean more usable detail in each second. Conversely, a short, well-timed event clip can answer a simple arrival question. Match the mode to the question you want the footage to answer.

Where the Q70 fits

The current UCOCARE Q70 EU listing describes AOV recording with low-frame-rate context around events. It combines a fixed wide-angle view and a moving lens, with two 4MP cameras, an 8W solar panel and a 15800mAh battery.

The listing does not establish an exact idle frame rate, event frame rate or pre-recording duration in this guide. We therefore do not assign those numbers or describe Q70 as a tested full-frame-rate recorder at all times. If a particular recording behavior is essential, confirm it with UCOCARE product support for the current model and settings.

Keep recording, connectivity and storage separate

These three parts solve different problems:

  1. The recording mode determines what the camera attempts to capture.
  2. The network connection enables supported remote viewing, alerts and online services.
  3. The storage arrangement determines where recordings are saved and how long you can retrieve them.

For Q70, the current listing is the EU SKU. Remote features need compatible cellular coverage, active data service and camera power. The included SIM trial lasts seven days; it is not a lifetime connection. Local cards up to 128GB are supported and sold separately, with optional cloud storage also available.

AOV does not make a data plan free, and a solar panel does not make storage unlimited. Review the solar-camera placement checklist to assess charging and signal at the planned location.

A practical playback check after setup

Before relying on a new installation, carry out a simple activity you can repeat in a permitted location. Note the time, enter the camera's view, pause, move across the area and leave. Then retrieve the recording.

  • Can you find the relevant time without a lengthy search?
  • What is visible immediately before the detected activity?
  • Does the recording show the movement you needed to understand?
  • What is saved after you leave?
  • Can you export and open the file outside the app?

Repeat under the lighting conditions that matter to you, and check battery and storage status. This establishes how your own setup behaves; another customer's review cannot substitute for it.

Which approach should you prioritise?

Prioritise event clips when selected activity is enough and the camera's triggering behavior fits the task. Consider conventional continuous recording when a sustained video record is important and suitable power and storage are available. Consider AOV when you want context between events with a battery/solar design, while accepting and checking the recording-rate tradeoffs.
