Video Doorbell Buying Guide: Features, Power & Storage
Choose a video doorbell by the installation, the view you need and how you will retrieve recordings. A high resolution label cannot compensate for a poor mounting position, weak connection or unsuitable storage plan. This guide turns those choices into a short buying checklist, with the UCOCARE P1 and P7 as examples from our current range.
Start with the doorway
Look at the available mounting surface, door movement and the area you want to see. A wide view does not automatically show a parcel directly below the lens. Check the camera angle and installation instructions, then test the intended view before making permanent mounting changes.

Choose a power arrangement you can maintain
- Rechargeable battery: plan how you will remove or charge the device, especially at a busy entrance. Frequent alerts, live viewing and colder conditions can change the charging interval.
- Wired power: check the exact supported voltage, wiring and chime compatibility in the instructions. An existing doorbell wire is not proof of compatibility.
- Recording: battery capacity does not establish continuous recording support. Confirm whether the selected model records events or supports the continuous footage you require.
The P1 and P7 listings specify 10000mAh rechargeable batteries. That number describes capacity; it does not guarantee a fixed number of days between charges. Read standby time versus recording battery life to compare claims on the same basis.
Check the connection and the people who will use it
Remote live view and notifications require a working network connection and the appropriate app permissions. Test reception at the actual door position and verify the supported network requirements for the exact model. Decide who needs access, whether they will use a phone and how visitors will be heard when phones are silent.
An indoor chime and a phone alert serve different purposes. Both P1 and P7 currently list an included wireless indoor chime. Check its power requirements, placement and volume options for the room where it will be used.
Compare storage before comparing headline prices
Both listings support local memory cards up to 128GB; the card is not included. Cloud storage is a separate optional service. Check recording length, overwrite behaviour and how to download an important clip. A free trial does not mean that the paid service remains free after the trial.
Budget for the doorbell, the required card, mounting accessories and any optional subscription. Keep a copy of important footage outside the camera before loop recording overwrites it. Do not assume that live viewing, local recording and cloud retention are the same feature.
P1 and P7: which differences should you verify?
P1: event recording and detection controls
The UCOCARE P1 listing specifies 2K video, human/vehicle detection, custom detection zones, event recording and a wireless chime. These are useful features to compare if your main requirement is checking visitors and reducing irrelevant alerts. Detection settings still need adjustment at the installation site; they cannot guarantee that every alert is correct.
P7: view format and supported smart-home features
The UCOCARE P7 listing specifies 2K/4MP video, a 4:3 view, human detection, two-way audio with a voice changer and compatibility with Alexa and Google Assistant. Confirm the supported functions with your account, region and devices rather than assuming every app feature is available through a voice assistant.

Five checks for the first day
- Confirm the live view covers the visitor position and the area you actually need.
- Ring the bell and check the indoor chime and each authorised phone.
- Walk through the view and review the saved clip, not only the notification.
- Check the night view for glare and adjust the location or settings if necessary.
- Find the charging instructions and practise downloading a clip.
Questions to settle before purchase
Do I have to subscribe? P1 and P7 list local card storage as well as optional cloud storage. Check which functions and retention period your chosen setup provides.
Will the doorbell stop theft? It can help you see or communicate with a visitor and may provide a recording. It cannot guarantee theft prevention or replace locks, suitable lighting and other precautions.
What if I cannot confirm compatibility? Contact UCOCARE support with the exact model, country and installation question before ordering. Do not send account passwords.
